Revitalized Daniil Medvedev Wins Maiden Trophy in 882 Days
19 of Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been won on hard courts
A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his first trophy for 882 days with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.
Medvedev, a former world number one, has experienced a challenging season, managing just one match at the major tournaments and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.
His varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serve in especial - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally parting ways with former mentor Cervara.
Presently working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently improved in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Corentin Moutet.
This represents Medvedev's maiden trophy since the Rome competition and initial on a hard court since spring of that year.
Victory also signifies he has secured twenty-one championships at 21 different events.
"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional the champion.
"This victory is in dedication of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."
The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his last six championship matches, including in Halle in the past months.
His counter-punching approach and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted some to question if his skill to compete at the highest level was over.
Yet the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the past month, striving to advance forward and play positively, backed up by an improved serve.
Medvedev fought back from a deficit in the first set against the difficult Moutet, winning four of the concluding five points to take the lead.
The competitors exchanged service breaks in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his first professional title, seized the initiative to create a final set.
The opponent saved 4 early opportunities in a tight deciding set before the champion won the break to fifteen to serve for the match.
Fittingly, Medvedev earned victory with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman unable to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
